We’ve rounded up the top three time management tips we’ve learned over the years to help you become an expert in making the most of your time every single day.
- Use a to-do list. One of the simplest ways to start effectively managing your time is by using a to-do list. Start each day by writing down all of the tasks you need to accomplish, no matter how small or large they may be. If you can, group tasks together depending on how long you know they’ll take. Don’t forget to cross off items as you complete them — there’s no better feeling than making a big cross through a task, and you’ll be able to easily track your progress on your list. You’ll feel so much more motivated when you’re able to clearly see what you’ve already accomplished and what work still needs to be done.
- Set a time limit. Carve out how much time each task will take you and set a time limit to that activity. If you know it’ll take you 2 hours to complete a presentation you’ve been working on and you plan to start working on it at 1pm, give yourself a specific time you need to finish it by. Knowing that you have until 3pm to finish your project will keep you on task and help you stay motivated to get the job done.
- Say “no.” It’s easy to overcommit yourself to taking on too much work, and sometimes you might not have time for it all. If you know that you have a busy day, set boundaries and say no to work you know you don’t have the bandwidth to complete. Although it might be hard to see someone else do tasks that you typically work on, try delegating projects to someone else that you know has time to execute them to lessen your workload and save you some time.
